Multiple farmhouses with half hectare of land and olive trees
What is a “Casa di Contadino”
A “Casa di Contadino” is a typical ancient Apulian style farmhouse that often consists of 3 rooms or more and is between 75 m2 to 150m2. Think of it as a cottage that farmers and their families used to live in while they harvested the famous Apulian olive oil. The owner of “Masseria Grande”, who is an engineer that loves using antique Messapican building techniques. For example he likes building walls out of field stones and combines the old and new in an attractive way. The owners also produce the famous “Mandurian Wine” and extra virgin olive oil on their 150-hectare farm. Now he and his wife are planning to sell individual parcels of land for clients who love the Apulian countryside and develop those country houses according to the client’s wishes.
Who is interested in living in a “Casa di Contadino” or the purchase of land?
Any interested individual, couple, family, small olive oil producer, or investor has the advantage of a very economic price but also of having a very welcoming and organized landlord couple whom will watch over your property and help farm it. One can also just purchase land on its own. There is the occasional fiesta that you may attend at the main Masseria where you can enjoy Cosimo’s wine, take lessons in cooking with your family on the large outside pizza oven, or have your children interact with other travelers in the swimming pool or tennis court.
Idea, Vision, Reality
The idea came to life when visitors staying at “Masseria Grande” as bed & breakfast guests fell in love with the Masseria, its land and the case di contra to such a degree that they were interested in purchasing a little piece of it, making it their own home underneath the romantic olive trees. Cosimo has realized this dream and we now wish to share this experience, making it available to anyone who can imagine themselves being Italian landowners and living in a summer farmhouse with acres of beautiful land surrounding you.
If you are curious, LAP is happy to show you the masseria and the bigger estate around it. Anyone who loves sweet countryside living is bound to be a fan.
Olive Oil & Red Wine
The type of Apulian extra virgin olive oil that is produced here is known as “Cellino di Nardo” which is known for its superior and unique “bitter yet sweet taste” and is found throughout the south of Italy especially in Salento. It is known as one of the finest tasting olive oils that Apulia produces.
The Mandurian redwine that is produced on the masseria’s 50 hectare vineyard consists of the grapes of primitivo, negroamaro, lambusco. The wine and olive oil tastings alone make “Masseria Grande” worth a visit for the short term or long term and is a piece to authentic Puglian lifestyle.
