Hike and Swim at Torre Sant’Emiliano in Salento
One of our favorite spots to go during the summer for a family hike and swim is Torre San’t Emiliano in the Salento region of Puglia. This wonderful ancient watch tower was built in the 16th century during the reign of Charles V. and was designed as a defense post just south of the town of Otranto.
Considered a historical landmark, the tower has a truncated shape and measures 9 meters in diameter. There is a beautiful hiking path which runs along the coast and will take you further south in the direction Porto Badisco. Here, the Adriatic Sea appears bluer than anywhere else, and you can swim freely all day long without seeing another soul.
For those who enjoy snorkeling and diving this is the spot to go! We highly recommend that you stay at the Masseria Autigne which is a lovely bed & breakfast diagonally across from the tower with simple yet tasteful design. From here you can explore and make the most out of the Salento, which has many more hidden gems to offer just like this.
We hope you enjoy the swimming and hiking here.
